Expropriation

Expropriation is an important area of law for the execution of private and public development projects. It requires thorough knowledge of the legal authority used in development plans and administrative procedures pursuant to the rules of the Public Administration Act, thorough knowledge of the assessment and appraisal of agricultural/forestry areas and various development areas for residential and industrial use, etc.

The Expropriation area of expertise consists of 10 lawyers, four of whom are partners, and we have been responsible for the acquisition of land for the largest public development projects in Norway, such as:

  • New main airport at Gardermoen. This also included access by road and railway.
  • Development of a new Ring Road in a tunnel from Sinsen to Økern.
  • New double rack for the Norwegian National Rail Administration in Sandnes and Asker.

A number of these tasks are also performed for private developers, who must provide financing and develop public infrastructure due to the sequencing requirements in public land use plans. In this connection we can mention IKEA’s new establishment in Asker and their new store in Åsane in Bergen.

Our lawyers are popular as lecturers, and we hold in-house courses on municipal and expropriation law topics for municipalities, government road authorities, and others.
